Topeka has a lot of chain restaurants, Chris Sutton says, and few alternatives for fine dining.
That is why he is bringing Blue Moose Bar and Grill here to fill that niche.
Sutton, the president and CEO of KC Hopps Ltd., a restaurant managing company based in the Kansas City area that partners with local investors, said the Blue Moose Bar and Grill is an upscale casual eatery that caters to a wide variety of people. He said the Blue Moose Bar and Grill will open at its Topeka location, 3030 S.W. Wanamaker, by mid-November.
All of the restaurant’s food is made from scratch, Sutton said, including a variety of small plates, appetizers, soups and salads, as well as artisanal pizzas, sandwiches and burgers, and entrees consisting of steaks, chops, pastas and seafoods — all within a modest price range.
“These aren’t fine dining prices,” he said. “It’s fine dining food at cheap prices.”
Sutton said the Blue Moose Bar and Grill’s variety means it is great for business lunches and happy hour, but they often see families early in the evening.
Young adults and empty-nesters come in later in the evening, he said, and for those patrons who want to stay out a little later, they have a nice crowd.
Two private rooms in the restaurant will seat up to 30 people.
Televisions will make the restaurant a great place to watch a ball game, and the patio has been designed to include two firepits that patrons can sit around, Sutton said.
The first Blue Moose Bar and Grill opened eight years ago in Prairie Village, and Sutton said his company built a legend of a blue beast that roams the Kansas City, and now the Topeka area.
He said he hopes rumors of the creature spread around Topeka.
Two Blue Moose Bar and Grill restaurants currently operate in the Kansas City area, with one in Prairie Village and one in Overland Park.
