Mom-and-pop motels find niche in local market

They are the no-name competition in a name-brand world.

They might not have cappuccino or make-your-own waffles for breakfast, but chances are good you’ll find a couple of lawn chairs outside your door if you’re inclined to catch some air or watch the world go by.

These are the inns and motels of an earlier time — built not along the highway, but near whatever it was that drew vacationers to a destination.

And despite all that’s fresh and new in the hotel business, many of these mom-and-pop properties continue to find a niche in the local marketplace.
