Niche restaurant's Gerard Craft is finalist for James Beard Award

Chef/owner Gerard Craft of Niche restaurant has been named a finalist in the James Beard Awards.

He’s competing in the Best Chef: Midwest category. The other nominees are Justin Aprahamian of Sanford restaurant in Milwaukee; Colby Garrelts of Bluestem in Kansas City; Tory Miller of L’ Etoile in Madison, Wis.; and Lenny Russo of Heartland Restaurant Farm Direct Market in St. Paul, Minn.

This is Craft’s third nomination. In 2009, he became the first local chef ever to be a finalist for the James Beard Award, and he was nominated again in 2010.

In addition to Niche, Craft owns Taste by Niche and Brasserie by Niche.  Niche is scheduled to move in the summer to the Centene Building at Forsyth Boulevard and Hanley Road in Clayton, where it will be joined by another Craft restaurant, Pastaria by Niche.

The Beard Awards ceremony is scheduled for May 7 in New York.
